REGGIO EMILIA
One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world!
Welcome to Village Preschool! A Reggio Emilia International School
Village Preschool is a Reggio Emilia inspired private school providing education for children from age 6 weeks to 6 years.
Our School emphasizes bilingualism, quality education and using an authentic Reggio Emilia approach. We are committed to individualized learning at the child’s pace, accommodations to meet each child’s learning style and needs, hands-on and sensory-based apparatus and an enriched academic curriculum that nurtures the whole child. Village Preschool offers ” a home away from home”. We recognize that “It takes a Village to raise a child” and we are committed to creating an ideal environment for your child to reach their fullest potential, develop a love for learning, and contribute positively to the community.
A Reggio Emilia Inspired Environment
At Village Preschool we adopt a Reggio Emilia approach. Our classroom’s curriculum stems from the particular interests of our children . Our curriculum topics and special projects are derived from talking with our children and their families, as well as from things that are known to be interesting to our children. Teachers take notes and observe to decide which projects would be best suited to children in their classes, what materials will be needed, and how they can encourage parents and the community to become involved.
Projects are often introduced to our children as adventures, and can last anywhere from a week or two to the entire school year. Teachers act as advisors on these projects, helping our children decide in which direction they would like to take their research, how they can represent what they learn, and what materials would be best suited for their representations.
The Reggio Emilia approach calls for the presentation of new ideas and concepts in multiple forms, such as print, art, drama, music, puppetry, and so on. Our children will use different materials, textures, and media to present various concepts. This helps our children express themselves in many ways (The 100 languages of children). Varied presentations ensure that all of our children have the chance to understand and connect with the concepts being explored.
The idea of team work is essential to further all of our children’s cognitive development. Groups are encouraged to work together to problem-solve using dialogue, comparisons, negotiations, and other important interpersonal skills. Each child’s voice is heard in order to promote a balance between a sense of belonging to the group and a sense of self.
STEAM; Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math are seamlessly integrated into our inquiry-based and child-led approach to learning. STEAM at Village Preschool takes on an active, hands-on, and immersive approach to learning. Teachers introduce inspiring materials and objects to stimulate children’s curiosity and prompt them to think and ask questions.
ARTS; Our Art program is the cornerstone of our school Children are naturally creative and derive much pleasure from involvement in creative arts. They learn a host of skills and acquire tremendous self-esteem when given varied opportunities to create.
LANGUAGE; Our language program is designed to help facilitate a foundation of English and a Secondary language by the time our students leave to head to school. Besides learning two languages our goal is that our children be better problem solvers, communicators and have a better ability to learn other languages in the future. At Village Preschool parents have the option to choose a language elective of English, French or Spanish.
